Our Purpose and History

Our purpose will be to assimilate and disseminate reliable and authenticated information about the genus Fuchsia from all over the world. This site is our main haven where we will archieve all of our research so that other likeminded individuals like ourselves can benefit, along with other interesting posts and pages that we see fit.

Fuchsia Research International was founded in June 1998 by five like-minded individuals who were interested in the science of the genus Fuchsia.

We were offered, through the intermediaries of Bob Hall and Ray Butt, facilities at Margam Country Park and which is where first formal meeting was held in October 1998. At this meeting the organization was formally created and postions were appointed to those members who best fit the role.
The current Board meets twice a year. The board formally meet twice a year, once in May and the second late in September which follows a social weekend which all memebers are invited to talk about things less formal and to interact as friends rather than collegues. All of these events are of course at the main Fuchsia Research International ‘Headquaters’, Margam Country Park.

The National Collection of Fuchsia species is housed in the Citrus House Conservatory at Margam Park and is open to the public. It is advisable to contact us before a visit to be sure the Citrus House is open and if you would like a conducted Tour to learn directly from the people that have conducted research on such wonderful Fuchsia plants.
